If there’s one must-see attraction in Estonia’s capital, it’s Old Town, the medieval district that accounts for so much of the city’s past-meets-future appeal. Dozens of operators offer the standard walking tour of the area, but to give you a real feel for what Old Town was like in its heyday, Blue Drum has created an adventure called “500 Years Back in Time.” You’ll meet a guides, who represent medieval symbols of Tallinn or merchants in authentic costumes and they take you back in time, 500 years, to 1517. This is the journey, where you’ll forget the modern time and notice things differently than just looking around by yourself in Old Town of Tallinn.
This 2-3 hour cosplay tour can be led by Old Thomas, the city guard who has been a symbol of Tallinn since the early 1500s. As your group makes its way through the curving, cobblestone streets of this charming area, you’ll be met by mystical heroes from times past, sample medieval food and partake in secret tastings. Through colorful legends, exciting facts, myths and arcane folklore, the unique story of Estonia and Tallinn’s early years is introduced to both local history buffs and foreign tourists. Are you ready for an experience?
Estonia’s UNESCO world heritage capital city Tallinn was granted city rights in the 13th century by the King of Denmark. Since then, the streets of Tallinn have seen many world powers, from the Danes and Swedes to Germans, and tsarist and Soviet Russia. The site preserves to a remarkable extent the medieval urban structure of building plots, streets and squares, set out in the 13th century, as well as medieval urban fabric. The authentic setting of the inscribed World Heritage property includes some significant architecture from the late 19th century and early 20th century including theatres and schools as well as a number of exceptional wooden suburbs which form an integral part of the historic, urban fabric round Tallinn Old Town. Alternatively this activity can be offered with iPads. Contact us for more information about this activity.
